The highly acclaimed four-part documentary series ‘The Kings’, detailing the story of four iconic boxing champions Roberto Duran, ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard, makes its Australian premiere Tonight on ESPN.

From the producers of Senna and Amy,‘The Kings’ explores the golden era of Welterweight champions from 1980-1989 and the four fighters who ushered in a boxing renaissance.
 
The series showcases the dominance of Roberto Duran, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard, detailing their battles in and out of the ring.
 
‘The Kings’ will air over two nights on ESPN.
 
The first and second episodes will premiere on Tuesday July 27 at 7pm AEST.
 
The series will then conclude with episodes three and four airing on Wednesday July 28 at 7pm AEST.
 
As the recession of the late 1970s gave way to the capitalism of the 1980’s, the underrepresented yearned for someone to fight for them.

Amidst this backdrop, Roberto Duran, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard became the people’s champions and revitalized the sport of boxing.
 
Through in-depth interviews and archival footage, the series showcases their incredible achievements in the ring as well as their personal battles outside of it.
 
Their iconic showdowns inside the boxing ring are among the most talked about battles in the sports history.
 
It was a chapter that made all four men into boxing royalty, and gave fans a story for the ages.
