7NEWS is delighted to announce that Amanda Abate will present 7NEWS Gold Coast weekdays at 5.30pm.
Following Rod Young’s farewell from the news desk on Thursday evening, Abate will take on presenting duties from this evening.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside Rod and I know his presence will be greatly missed on our screens and in our newsroom,”
“It’s a big responsibility and quite daunting taking over the reins, but I will do my best to bring as much warmth and professionalism to the desk, and the same dedication to the issues that affect our community.”
Director 7NEWS Brisbane and Gold Coast, Neil Warren, said:
“As we farewell Rod Young after 19 years with the Seven Network, we are delighted to see Amanda steer the 7NEWS Gold Coast bulletin into this new chapter. Her warmth and professionalism in delivering the news has done and will continue to resonate strongly with our viewers.
“Amanda is a local and is driven to provide the best local news from across the suburbs covering the stories that really matter to Gold Coast residents.”
Abate joined the 7NEWS team in 2009 as a local Gold Coast reporter. In the years that followed, she reported on major news events both locally and internationally from the Brisbane and Sydney newsrooms as well as a stint in Seven’s US Bureau.
In 2012, Amanda returned home to the Gold Coast to present 7NEWS Gold Coast’s weekend bulletin. She has co-presented the 7NEWS Gold Coast alongside Rod Young since 2016.
