Queenslanders will have a front-row seat to history on Wednesday as 7NEWS broadcasts live from Tokyo the state’s historic final bid to the International Olympic Committee in its quest to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2032.

Anchors Sharyn Ghidella and Max Futcher will lead the 7NEWS Queensland live rolling coverage from 4.00pm of the crucial pitch from the Olympic and Paralympic Games Live Site in Brisbane’s South Bank, where crowds will be gathering to view the events from Tokyo on the big screen.

7NEWS will be live to Tokyo for commercial-free coverage of the 45-minutes of presentations from Prime Minister Scott Morrison via satellite, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner.

This will be followed by the all-important International Olympic Committee’s vote, with the announcement to be broadcast live in 7NEWS at 6.00pm.

7NEWS will also cross live to the Gold Coast Live Site at Kurrawa, the Sunshine Coast Live Site at Caloundra, and the Olympic Village in Tokyo as some of Australia’s greatest medal hopes share their thoughts ahead of the Opening Ceremony on Friday.

Director 7NEWS Brisbane, Neil Warren, said:

“Years in the making, this is an unmissable moment in Queensland’s history – the pivotal moment which will determine the state’s prosperity for the next 12 years and beyond.”

Sharyn Ghidella added:

“It all comes down to one final 45-minute pitch from the Queensland Premier, the Prime Minister and The Lord Mayor. The result will impact Queenslanders for generations to come.”

Max Futcher said:

“The last time Brisbane went through the bid process was in the late 1980s and it happened in Switzerland out of view. This time you will see it unfold live, right before your eyes.”
