Disney+ unveiled a new trailer and poster today for Marvel Studios’ “What If…?,” showcasing the compelling series that reimagines famous events from films in the MCU.
Creating a multiverse of infinite possibilities, “What If… ?” features fan-favourite characters, including Peggy Carter, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Killmonger, Thor and more.
The new series, directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley as head writer, features signature MCU action with a curious twist. It will exist in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It varies amongst the characters whether the original actor will also lend their voice. Confirmed to have reprised their roles includes Chadwick Boseman as T’challa, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.
The characters of Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rogers/Captain America, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, will be a part of the series, though not voiced by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Brie Larson respectively.
Jeffrey Wright (Angels in America, Westworld) stars as Uatu/the Watcher, who narrates the series. The Watcher race observes the multiverse, and occasionally intervenes with events therein.
A.C Bradley describes the Watcher as:
“A guy watching a rat drag a slice of pizza across the platform. He has no interest in becoming friends with the rat, living amongst the rat, or doing rat things. He just goes ‘Man, this is remarkable. Look at the little guy go!’ That is the Watcher’s relationship with humanity.”
Premiering on August 11, the first season will consist of 10 episodes, and a second 10-episode season is currently in development.
