After five seasons filled with plenty of romance and drama, Nine has confirmed the fifth season of popular Australian drama Doctor Doctor will be it’s last.
Season five of the Australian rural drama, which is filmed in Mudgee NSW, is currently airing on Wednesday nights on Nine.
Media writer Colin Vickery confirmed the decision on social media.
Channel 9’s Head of Drama, Andy Ryan and Easy Tiger’s Founder and Producer, Ian Collie confirmed the decision telling TV Blackbox:
For five incredible seasons, Australia has shared in the journey of everybody’s favourite bad boy doctor, Hugh Knight, his fabulously flawed family and the beautiful town of Whyhope.
But all journeys have a destination, and after five seasons it’s finally crunch time in Hugh’s roller-coaster search for redemption and love. We are thrilled to bring the story to a fitting climax in a way that honours the characters and will surprise and delight the audience.
Doctor Doctor has been a domestic and international success, as well as a showcase of outstanding Australian talent. Channel 9 and Easy Tiger are immensely proud of what Doctor Doctor has achieved.
It has been a privilege to entertain our loyal viewers, as well as collaborate with our magnificent cast and crew for five seasons.
Featuring Rodger Corser in the lead role as bad boy, Dr Hugh Knight, the series has delivered consistently strong audience figures for the network at a time when many other local dramas are struggling.
The May 26th episode of Doctor Doctor secured a national average consolidated audience of 784,000 once BVOD and encore viewers were included.
In addition to Corser, the series has featured an impressive cast line-up including: Tina Bursill, Ryan Johnson, Nicole da Silva, Matt Castley, Chloe Bayliss, Charles Wu, Belinda Bromilow and Hayley McElhinney as Penny.
