Over the next six weeks, join Stan Grant and Yvonne Yong as they take a fresh look at news and current affairs from inside China.

In the lead up to the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party, China Tonight will go beyond the headlines of trade and politics and examine the country’s challenges and triumphs, making sense of the people, the history and the ambition.

Each week guest contributors including comedian Annie Louey, TV presenter and video game critic Angharad Yeo, writer Jinghua Qian, reporter Samuel Yang, and journalist Wenlei Ma will bring fresh insights of life within China. From video gaming and the falling birth-rate; the property boom and the me-too movement; to men’s cosmetics and what’s currently trending on Weibo – the show will present the full complexity of modern China to an Australian audience.

  1. On the whole what a great show. Little concerned as to how you thought stan laughing at a cup suggesting he walks with the confidence of an average white man is ok. Really wtf

  2. I have never been more ashamed to be Australian of aboriginal descent in my life.
I will never utter your name again as long as I live and hope the spirits of your ancestors can forgive you.
I can however ask the spirits to visit you and your descendants and remind them of how you have betrayed your people and your country.

    • I have been to China three times. I love the country and I applaud their leadership. Ron Carmody is absolute correct in stating that Stan Grant is betraying our country. I watched the segment regarding censorship of certain websites in China. It is a fact that Facebook and Google were used by far-right groups to organise violent anti-government demonstrations in many countries. The 6 January invasion in Washington is a case in point.
For many years now the ABC has tended to turn more and more to ‘joint ventures’ to save money. I want to know if China Tonight is one such programme, and, if so, who produces it, who funds it and why is it virulently anti-Chinese?

  3. None of the presenters are giving up their Australian Citizenship and applying to migrate to China. Why not it sounds like a wonderful place to live?
