Everything down AGAIN as Nine draw a win against overall softer numbers across the board.

Nine has success with Celebrity Apprentice Australia (682,000 launch; 812,000 boardroom), though the earlier part of the program faces some stiff competition. 60 Minutes (551,000) maintains part of that audience into the later evening, however Law & Order: Organised Crime (117,000) can’t continue the trend after the late news.
Nine first in both primary (21.9%) and network (29.3%) rankings.

Seven have a big swing early in the night with 7 News Spotlight: Martin Bryant’s Dark Secrets (702,000) and offer Nine some real competition for the first Sunday in some time. Interesting to note the Bryant special hadan added McLachlan update that caused it to run very late, after the 6pm News also ran very late (will this be a weekly/common occurrence now?). I wonder what the adjusted numbers would look like. A repeat of MOVIE: Jack Reacher – Never Go Back (354,000) draws a reasonable audience into the later evening, however Criminal Confessions (114,000) does not.
Seven second in both primary (19.9%) and network (28%) rankings.

A weak start for 10 as The Project (271,000 6:30pm; 416,000 7pm) struggles to deliver anything much. MasterChef Australia (541,000) a solid but distant third – certainly not where the network would want their flagship to be sailing. New and repeat eps of FBI: Most Wanted (225,000; 109,000) do little to bolster 10’s weak start to the week.
10 third in both primary (12.3%) and network (19.2%) rankings.

ABC really struggling with the new series of Spicks and Specks (475,000) at 7:30pm. Outdone by the commercial competition each week this season. At least they’ll have 10 more eps they can repeat ad nauseam. Wakefield (173,000) and Smother (133,000) don’t add much, and a repeat of Unforgotten (64,000) rounds out a soft night for Aunty.
ABC fourth in both primary (9.5%) and network (14.3%) rankings.

For SBS it was all in on Eurovision Song Contest 2021 Grand Final (165,000 final evening; 130,000 winner evening), which as a primetime replay (5am live version drew 123,000 final; 170,000 winner) shows a remarkable amount of commitment to something that is servicing a small pool of fans nationally.
SBS fifth in both primary (5.9%) and network (19.3%) rankings.

KEY DEMOS
Celebrity Apprentice launch/boardroom (16-39; 18-49) and MasterChef Australia dominate all three demos, interchanging with the 6pm News on Seven or Nine (25-54).

  1. What has happened to Spicks and Specks? The new shows are following that alarming trend set by Rove and The Project – namely that by laughing at your own jokes somehow makes them funny. The panelists are TRYING to be funny rather than just being themselves, and let the laughs follow. Alan is the only one who seems bemused (at times) at this new trend.
Please try and find that former chemistry.

    • Hi Adrian, I had noticed the same thing. I suspect some of the panellists are overcompensating with the laughter to try and make up for the fact these new episodes were filmed with no studio audience due to COVID.
