Channel 10 looks set to double-down on Masterchef Australia yet again in 2021 with reports today indicating the network has commissioned a Celebrity version of the cooking format.
The Media Diary column in The Australian is today reporting Channel 10 has signed off a new season of Celebrity Masterchef Australia. The commissioning of more Masterchef comes as the network looks to find something reliable it can use to prop up its schedule in Q4
The celebrity version of Masterchef last aired on Australian screens in 2009. Its return in 2021 comes after a Junior Masterchef version of the franchised bombed spectacularly in the ratings last year, while the current season is performing poorer than expected.
Interestingly, The Australian is suggesting former model Lara Bingle and former politician Julie Bishop as two likely cast members for the cooking show.
The return of Celebrity Masterchef comes at a time when Australia’s primetime programming is awash with d-grade celebs desperately trying to extend their 15 minutes of fame.
Nine has this week premiered a reboot of Celebrity Apprentice, while Seven has upcoming seasons of SAS Australia and Celebrity Big Brother in the works, plus Foxtel has now commissioned a local version of Celebrity Gogglebox, and of course, don’t forget I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here and The Masked Singer Australia….
