In this episode, it’s a wild and wacky road trip back home, off the beaten track through South Australia.

From Kangaroo Island to the Southern Ocean and the underground town of Coober Pedy, it will be a week of whacking it, packing it, and stacking it.

Our Travel Guides pick up their wheels and cruise down the scenic Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jarvis where they board a car ferry to Kangaroo Island – Australia’s third largest island, boasting a natural wonderland of rolling green hills, pristine beaches and abundant wildlife.

They better bee-hive themselves at King Island Living Honey, where they get close and personal with up to 10 million bees.

Next is a visit to the gin distillery on KI, involving a cocktail-making masterclass and, for the true gin junkies, a lesson in blending your own tipple.

For daredevils of all ages, the Guides head to the Little Sahara Adventure Centre for some sand-boarding down 70 metre-high sand dunes and then on to discover the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, home to over 600 native and rescued animals.

Next up is an adrenaline rush as they brave cage-diving with sharks off Neptune Island, the only place in Australia where you can dive with Great Whites. But first they must survive the overnight sea journey.

Posh retirees Kevin and Janetta were hoping the ship’s accommodation would be worth jumping into the sea with sharks, but instead they are faced with the unthinkable – bunk beds!

Back on dry land with all limbs intact, our Guides head nine hours inland. Will they strike it rich in Coober Pedy? Testing their luck, they visit Tom’s Working Opal Mine where anyone can rock up and play prospector for the day.

Finally, our Travel Guides take off on an Outback scenic flight crossing the vast Anna Creek cattle station and Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre), the world’s largest salt lake and Australia’s largest inland lake.

How will they rate their wild and wacky South Australian road trip out of five stars?

Travel Guides airs Wednesday 7.30pm on Channel9 and 9Now
