The Goodwood and Doomben 10,000 headline Saturday’s live and free racing

The Adelaide Autumn Carnival’s final day and the start of the Brisbane Winter Carnival take centre stage on the Seven Network this Saturday, on a massive day of thoroughbred racing that will also include all the big moments at Rosehill Gardens and Flemington.

Two iconic Group 1 sprint races are Saturday’s headline acts, with some of Australasia’s fastest horses set to do battle over 1200m in The Goodwood at Morphettville and the Doomben 10,0000 at Doomben.

Australia’s pre-eminent sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s undisputed #1 commentary team. He will be joined by Jason Richardson, Katelyn Mallyon and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs from 12.00pm AEST Saturday on Channel 7, 7two and 7plus.

In The Goodwood, last year’s runner-up Gytrash and local cult hero Behemoth, who finished second in 2019 and fourth last year, are back for another tilt at the Adelaide Autumn Carnival’s premier sprint event. In a strong field, last-start Group 1 winner Instant Celebrity is bidding to become the first three-year-old filly to win the race in 10 years, while Kemalpasa and Beau Rossa also loom as genuine contenders.

Morphettville also hosts four Group 3 races on Saturday that fans won’t want to miss: the RA Lee Stakes (1600m), National Stakes (1200m), SA Oaks (2500m) and Proud Miss Stakes (1200m).

The Brisbane Winter Carnival is the pinnacle of Queensland racing, and should start with a bang at Doomben on Saturday, when the feature race will be supported by five stakes events.

Eduardo shapes as the horse to beat in the Doomben 10,000 after his dominant win in The Galaxy (Group 1) in late March. However, the Joe Pride-trained gelding won’t have things all his own way, with Arrowfield 3YO Sprint winner Wild Ruler heading a classy group of challengers that includes Trekking, Splintex and Vega One.

Also on Saturday, Rosehill again hosts day two of Scone’s iconic carnival, which features five listed races including the 3YO Guineas (1400m) and Ortensia Stakes (1100m).

At Flemington, a quality field of stayers will line up in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m), where the winner will earn a guaranteed start in the 2021 Melbourne Cup.

Over the next five weeks, Seven and 7plus will bring fans all the biggest moments of winter racing across the country, including the prestigious Brisbane Winter Carnival and the best thoroughbred action from Sydney and Melbourne.
