When the highest rating program of the night draws sub-700k you know there’s trouble afoot. Unrelated: it was Budget night.

Nine have a solid start to the night with both A Current Affair (683,000) and Lego Masters Australia (683,000) holding down first in primetime. A repeat of MOVIE: Central Intelligence (297,000) didn’t offer much, however it did also lead the later evening. Nine News Late [Budget Special] (109,000) are just pushed into second for late night commercial News analysis.
Nine first in both primary (20.9%) and network (29.6%) rankings.

Seven come out of the gate with Home & Away (585,000) trying to be competitive, however Big Brother Australia (558,000) slides into third in the 7:30pm timeslot, losing the battle for second to 10. Again. US drama The Good Doctor (294,000) second in the later night slot. The Latest: Seven News [Budget Special] (117,000) win the battle of late night commercial News analysis.
Seven second in both primary (19.2%) and network (28%) rankings.

10 continue to lean into The Project (294,000 6:30pm; 478,000 7pm), which isn’t giving them much on their return. Meanwhile MasterChef Australia (573,000) is struggling through the quagmire of so many contestants people can barely keep up…so barely any people are watching it. How To Stay Married (272,000) hasn’t landed a solid episode yet this season as the numbers reveal. A repeat of Tuesday night stalwart NCIS (137,000) and a new ep of NCIS: Los Angeles (65,000)
helped a little (but not much) with the later evening.
10 third in both primary (12.9%) and network (19.7%) rankings.

ABC was all budget, budget, budget. Budget 2021: The Treasurer’s Speech (413,000) was the least watched program in the slot, mainly because we all wait for the analysis rather than watch the Treasurer. By “wait for the analysis” we don’t mean hours of it, though the traditional interview afterwards Budget 2021: ABC News special with Leigh Sales (270,000) didn’t light any fires. Nothing much came from Budget 2021: Reaction and Analysis with David Speers (67,000) or The Business: Budget Special (97,000) either.
ABC fourth in both primary (8.8%) and network (14.4%) rankings.

BREKKY BATTLE
Sunrise (257,000)
The Today Show (210,000)
ABC Breakfast (163,000 (111,000 ABC; 52,000 ABC News))
