With the nation’s economic roadmap revealed, how will the Budget affect you?

Make sense of all the facts, figures and changes to your hip pocket as the ABC’s political and economic experts bring you live coverage and unpack the issues.

The Federal Budget is due to be handed down on Tuesday 11 May, and there is considerable anticipation around the announcement as Australia continues to count the cost of COVID-19.

The ABC has the most extensive and independent coverage across all its platforms offering the most comprehensive analysis from some of the country’s leading economists.

Coverage begins at 7:30pm (AEST), as the Treasurer Josh Frydenberg hands down his federal budget live from Canberra.

From 8pm (AEST), join Leigh Sales for the Federal Budget Special, featuring first television interviews with the Treasurer and Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

Leigh will be joined on the night by Host of Insiders David Speers, ABC’s Political Editor Andrew Probyn and 7.30’s Chief Political Correspondent Laura Tingle, bringing you the best coverage, analysis and commentary.

Special guests include: Chris Richardson, Nicki Hutley. Gabriela D’Souza, Annabel Crabb and Ian Verrender.

The reaction to Budget 2021 continues from 9pm (AEST) with extended analysis by David Speers and experts who will run the ruler over what’s in the Budget for aged care, tourism and hospitality – and what it means for the future of Australia.  Jeremy Fernandez joins David live from Perth as he speaks to voters about the Budget’s key measures.

From 10pm (AEST), join Kathryn Robinson for The Business Budget Special as we break down incentives in the Budget for businesses. Kathryn will be joined by Finance Minister Simon Birmingham.

Special guests include Danielle Wood from the Grattan Institute and former Rudd adviser Andrew Charlton, as well as Zip Co chair Diane Smith-Gander and gender equality expert Libby Lyons. Plus, reaction from the manufacturing sector.

Following Tuesday’s Budget Special, ABC NEWS online will continue to bring you the latest budget news and information, as well as practical tips for your household, from managing expenses to personal finance stories.

The ABC will also broadcast Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese’s Budget Reply speech at 7:30pm (AEST) on Thursday 13 May.

  1. The ABC has always delivered on important matters concerning the nation: the annual budget, state, federal elections and disasters.

    It’s a given and is not news.

    It’d be news if the budget turned into variety spectacular: The Budget 2021 Big Band with the “Natural 7” (ABC) or Tony Bartuccio dancers.
