Shocking news in the world of showbiz this morning as it’s revealed the TV icon faced a life-or-death decision

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford has dropped a major bombshell this morning, revealing Bert Newton had his leg amputated yesterday.

Ford teased the story yesterday in a tweet yesterday, saying:

It was his choice and he said to me ‘don’t report this as a sad story’. So I won’t.

In his regular radio spots around the country, Ford has revealed an infection in Bert’s toe spread said the infection kept getting worse, leaving doctors no choice but to amputate.

The medical dramas started in December last year and progressively got worse. he had spent the last six weeks in hospital.

Speaking on 3AW this morning Ford reported:

“Bert was given the ultimatum: You only have a couple of months to live (but) if you have this operation and we amputate your leg you could have many years ahead,” he said.

“Bert clearly chose to stick around.”
