After a recent delay to its premiere, Nine has now dropped a new promo providing the first look at The Weakest Link with Magda Szubanski.
The new promo provides the first indication of just how merciless Magda Szubanski will be in mocking the contestants as they compete in the famous high-pressure quiz format.
Nine had previously advised The Weakest Link would be premiering on Tuesday, May 4 at 8:50pm. However, production delays with the series which only commenced filming in late April caused the network to revise those plans.
A spokesperson for Nine confirmed the decision telling TV Blackbox;
“Due to the tight production schedule Weakest Link will now launch at the end of May on Channel 9.”
While Magda Szubanski is widely considered a beloved comedian and is loved by many, she has also recently generated negative headlines due to a series of Twitter posts aimed at the PM’s wife, Jenny Morrison.
Over the last week, TV Blackbox has been inundated with comments from an angry lobby group protesting the networks decision to recruit Szubanski.
Nine’s decision to commission an updated version of The Weakest Link comes after the outstanding success of Hard Quiz on ABC. The acerbic quiz format hosted by comedian, Tom Gleeson has proven to be a consistent ratings juggernaut that regularly defeats its commercial rivals.
Nine’s head of content, production and development Adrian Swift recently talked up the revival stating.
“Weakest Link is one of the world’s most loved and enduring quiz formats. It’s not just about what you know, but also knowing who’s your biggest threat and when to bank your winnings.
We are very proud to have the new Weakest Link here on Nine.”
The Weakest Link previously aired in Australia on Seven in 2001/2002 with host Cornelia Frances.
I am an atheist but will not be watching the Weakest Link on principle. I was apalled by Magda Szubanski’s comment about the Prime Minister’s wife. This just shows the ignorance and rudeness of this so called comedian. It is disappointing when people in the entertainment industry use their media profile to promote this kind of bullying.
A great pity that channel 9 has chosen this person to host their quiz show. I know there are many other people like me who value decency and kindness who will not be watching this show for the same reasons.
If you’re not watching, you’re not missing much. Not sure if this is supposed to be a quiz show or a poor comedic take on one.
… Goodbye!!
