As Lego Masters has continued to dominate in the ratings, the show’s success has seen it renewed for a further two seasons, with Hamish Blake as the loveable “anti-host”.

Hamish stopped by The Anj, Rob & Robbo Show last night to talk about the huge success of the show, as well as his career with Andy Lee, and the impact they have had on people’s lives.

Host, Rob McKnight, shared a personal story of how Hamish and Andy’s podcast helped a producer* of the Anj, Rob & Robbo Show through a hard time in her life, and asked how it felt hearing stories like that.

Hamish said:

“To Ando and I, I meant this earnestly, that is the highest compliment because that’s what we’re doing it for, to be able to connect to people, to be able to make a small difference in their day or their life, that’s the whole point of it. We are having a great time, and if we can include people in having that great time, it is the most satisfying reward.”

Hamish also discussed the trajectory of his career with Andy Lee, beginning with their show on Seven.

“Not only did it bomb, it still almost wouldn’t be a success by today’s numbers!”

But in regards to their widely successful radio show, Hamish said:

“It worked for us because it was our favourite thing to do. Andy and I both love taking silly things very, very seriously. So we were happy to just go all in, in that period.”

On Lego Masters, Hamish spoke about the unknown when filming the show’s first season, about whether it would be a success.

“I really clearly remember back, early days, Mike (Healy) going ‘we believe in this show’, and him being on set before it aired… we were having a great time filming it, but you never know in TV.”

But when asked about how he feels being resigned for another two years, Hamish said:

“My only worry is finding enough people that are this good at LEGO, but the producers are confident that we could cast another two seasons. So if we think we could get the LEGO talent, why wouldn’t I do the show, it’s so much fun.”

*Yes, I am said producer. Thank you Hamish and Andy.
