It was love at first when construction manager Simon and fashion buyer Lauren stumbled upon a 150-year-old derelict church – complete with its own graveyard – for sale on the banks of the Hawkesbury River.
Five years on, they’ve converted the tiny church into their home and the family’s thrived in their riverside paradise.
But with the kids growing up and space at a premium they’re desperate to expand. They’ve got plans to build a super contemporary, glass and copper clad addition which will add panoramic views of the river and all the mod cons they’ve dreamed off.

But it’s a bold plan – one that risks desecrating the quaint little church and destroying the simple beauty they fell in love with in the first place.
