The reality TV host reveals why she hated the man who would later become the love of her life
Sonia Kruger is on the publicity trail for the new season of Big Brother. It’s only April and already Sonia has appeared on Holey Moley and Dancing With The Stars: All Stars but Big Brother holds a special place in her heart as it makes its 2021 debut in a crowded market.
The new series of Big Brother is dynamite TV (read my review HERE), but it’s up against formidable competition with Lego Masters and MasterChef.
Tonight, Sonia will appear on our internet streaming show The Anj, Rob & Robbo Show for a wide-ranging interview that has already been recorded. One of the many topics covered is her relationship with TV Executive Craig McPherson. McPherson is the Head of News & Current Affairs at the Seven Network and was previously Sonia’s boss at Today Tonight.
As revealed in tonight’s interview, Sonia wasn’t a fan of the tough-talking boss:
“He’s one of the toughest taskmasters there is. You would know. You get very little praise from Craig, but you will definitely hear about it if you’ve made a mistake or you’ve missed something.
As someone who worked with both Sonia and Craig during that period I can honestly say there were never any signs of love. While there was a professional respect between the two, I was absolutely gobsmacked when I read about their relationship.
Sonia says the two had many arguments along the way during her time working for him:
“So, I remember having a fight with Craig. I was filing a story. I was in New York doing a story with Jennifer Hawkins and Donald Trump, of all people. And I was filing this story at three o’clock in the morning. And for some reason, A Current Affair had wind of the fact that we were there, doing this story, and so for some reason, this has filtered back to Craig and I was on the phone, and he said something to me along the lines of, “Well, why don’t you feed it straight to Channel Nine, Sonia?
That statement was followed by Craig hanging up the phone on his entertainment reporter. But a few years later when Sonia had left Today Tonight and was working on Dancing With The Stars her dad was very ill and in hospital in a critical condition and it was at this time Craig reached out:
“He’d obviously heard about it, and he sent me a very kind message. And so from that point, we started talking and we reconnected. So it was really after I’d finished working with him, that our relationship started. And it’s strange because we’re polar opposites too. I’m very showbiz and he’s very news. But I like to think we complement each other.
And never has a truer word been spoken! While the media couple have a six-year-old daughter together named Maggie, Sonia says there are no further baby plans, although as the couple relocates to a new home they do have a new fur baby named Teddy, a one-year-old cavoodle.
