This week the experiment is focusing on memory.
Dementia is a one of the main fears for people as they age; It can lead to further isolation, depression and loss of independence. Keeping a sharp mind is crucial for our seniors if they want to remain living in their own homes.
With this in mind, Geriatrician Dr Stephanie Ward and aged care physiotherapist Nicola Kertanegara are sending the class on a memory-based treasure hunt at the end of the week.
To prepare them for their outing, the students will undertake a series of puzzles, problem solving activities and memory tests to help improve their executive function.
Over the course of memory week, the class must learn and remember their peculiar pirate name which John F finds the hardest. They must memorise and recreate their pirate flag, an exercise in puzzles, problem solving and negotiations with four year olds.
