The Foxtel Group is set to launch a new streaming service in Australia, and this time the focus will be on live news.

As Australian consumers increasingly abandon free-to-air television, favouring the convenience of streaming. The big question has been how viewers will access live sport and news content.

Foxtel answered the first part of this question in 2018 with the launch of sports service Kayo, and now the company is setting its sights on providing affordable access to multiple live streaming news channels with the launch of Newsflash.

The SMH recently confirmed Newsflash was in development, and now TV Blackbox can reveal further exclusive details about the new streaming product.

Newsflash is expected to launch in Q4 this year and will provide customers access to Live and On-Demand news and opinion programming from Sky News Australia.

Additionally, the new streaming service is also expected to feature Live and On-Demand programming from international channels including Fox News and CNN.

Foxtel recently became the exclusive Australian home to CNN programming under a broader content agreement with Warner Bros, and the launch of Newsflash will allow it to further capitalise on this investment.

Newsflash will also provide investors access to the latest in international finance news with access to services from Bloomberg and CNBC.

Newsflash will be launched as a standalone product with pricing yet to be confirmed. Its expected packages will also be made available to bundle the product with NewsCorp’s other digital news mastheads.

  1. No one is going to pay for a news service if you can get it for free from ABC News Or Channel 9. 7. 10 I for a start will not sign up to the news streaming service

    • What, channel 7,9 etc is not news, it’s regurgitated snippets with zero depth and they all literally have the same news, same angles, lazy reporting. it’s basically drive by news. Not saying sky news, cnn etc is the best but Australian free to air ‘news’ is so low effort.

  2. with the lack of credibility of sky news Australia this will be another fail. independent news is the future

  3. CNN brand now falls into the gutter in Australia. The only way to subscribe to it here is now within a conspiracy news package. Good grief.
