Cold water has been poured on media reports that the kitsch show is coming back
Despite media reports this week that Seven has commissioned a second season of Holey Moley, things aren’t as they seem.
Insiders at Seven have told TV Blackbox contributor Aaron Ryan no deal has been struck and no decision has been made on its future.
Aaron dropped the news in the latest edition of the TV Blackbox podcast (listen below) during a segment talking about its surprise return.
Holey Moley started strong with 983,000 metro viewers but viewer fatigue set in with too many episodes each week and a very long run time of 90 minutes. The show halved its audience between episode 1 and the season finale, which drew only 491,000 viewers.

Seven sources tell Aaron that while a second season has not been commissioned at this stage, nothing is being ruled out. Seven has a Q1 problem where every show has failed to fire and executives at the network are looking for a stronger programming slate to launch the ratings year.
But Holey Moley is always an option if the right format cannot be found.
There is no doubt viewers would see big changes including a shorter run time and fewer episodes each week.
The race is now on for Seven to find a brand new show before their annual upfronts later this year.
