Footy fans are in for a bumper treat this week with three stellar match-ups and the debut of Sonny Bill Williams with Channel 9’s NRL commentary team on Friday night.
Tonight on Hisense Thursday Night Footy, the Melbourne Storm meet the Penrith Panthers in a rematch of the 2020 Grand Final.
Penrith have been plotting revenge after the heartache of losing the GF exactly five months ago, and while both teams now look very different they have star-studded packs with potent attack and bruising defence. The Panthers are yet to concede a single point this season, a rare statistic that’s unlikely to stand after this absorbing contest.
Macca’s Friday Night Footy will present the latest chapter in one of the oldest feuds in Australian sport – the Sydney Roosters versus the South Sydney Rabbitohs, an intensive rivalry that has been fuelled for 113 years.
Both teams are top-four finals favourites and all eyes will be on the fullback battle between James Tedesco, who has scored five tries in two games, and Latrell Mitchell, who is in lethal form after a long injury lay-off. Apart from winning this game, both are eyeing off the NSW Blues fullback jersey for the upcoming State of Origin series.
Recently retired superstar Sonny Bill Williams, the latest recruit for Channel 9’s Wide World of Sports, debuts on the panel for the first time on Friday night clash. He will be alongside long-time rival Paul Gallen – so watch out, anything is liable to happen.
And to cap the week off, an incredible milestone is reached when Mitchell Pearce plays his 300th NRL game on Chemist Warehouse Sunday Footy as his Newcastle Knights face the Wests Tigers.
