TODDLER JAIDYN LESKIE WAS MURDERED IN 1997 AND A WHOLE TOWN SEEMED JUDGED FOR THE CRIME

Moe, in rural Victoria, was home to a poverty-ravaged underclass who became the targets of a media circus when the disappearance of the toddler was made public. Amidst the frenzy of headlines and tabloid hype, Jaidyn was forgotten, and no one has ever been brought to justice for his death.

Jaidyn was 13 months old when he was reported missing. He had been in the care of unemployed mechanic Greg Domaszewicz while his mum Bilynda Murphy spent the night drinking in a neighbouring town.

Bilynda was in a casual relationship with Greg after splitting from Jaidyn’s father Brett Leskie – the ex-husband of her own sister, and father of her sister’s child.

In 1997, Legg’s investigative team believed Greg killed Jaidyn that evening. But irretrievably confusing the case – and the events that night – was a bizarre attack made on Greg’s house using a pig’s head as a projectile. While Greg was picking up Bylinda from the pub where she was drinking, a local named Kenny Penfold threw the severed pig’s head at Greg’s front windows – in retribution, he claimed, for Greg two-timing with Kenny’s sister.

When Greg returned home with Bilynda and reported Jaidyn missing, he claimed the ‘pig’s head team’ must have snatched him.

Jaidyn’s body was found on January 1, 1998, in a Moe dam. Greg was put on trial for murder, but was sensationally found not guilty – according to observers, partly because of the courtroom antics of Kenny Penfold and his ‘pig’s head team’. Years later a coroner ruled Greg had disposed of Jaidyn’s body – but stopped short of declaring him responsible for the boy’s death.

Now years later – the major characters involved come together: former lead detective Rowland Legg, veteran crime reporter Keith Moor, historian Dr. Elise Rosser – joined by former Supreme Court judge, the Honorable Anthony Whealy QC, who is fully-briefed on the case. And in a major exclusive – Liz Hayes interviews the man at the center of it all, Greg Domaszewicz, speaking out for the first time in 20 years.
