The Great Australian Bake Off last aired on the Lifestyle Channel in 2019. When the season ended it rounded out a 4 year association with Foxtel.
Franchise rights for the popular reality cooking format which is based on a BBC version went on the open market in 2020.
Rumours and speculation at the time from the widespread media pointed to Seven Network picking up the series to replace My Kitchen Rules.
However, I can exclusively reveal through TV Blackbox that Foxtel is now re-securing format rights to the franchise and final negotiations are underway.
There is no word from Foxtel yet on whether they intend to revamp the series or if the original presenter line-up of Matt Moran, Maggie Beer, Mel Buttle and Claire Hooper will be returning.
The commissioning of a new season of The Great Australian Bake Off comes at time when Foxtel is looking to dramatically increase its investment in lifestyle programming. The pay-tv provider recently announced production would soon commence on two new series, Selling In The City and The Repair Shop Australia.
Lifestyle will also soon premiere the documentary series Scott Pape’s Money Movement, while popular series Grand Designs Australia, Love It or List It Australia, Selling Houses Australia and Find My Dream Home with Deborah Hutton are all returning.
A spokesperson for Foxtel confirmed the move telling TV Blackbox:
