Tomorrow it will be officially announced that Nat Barr will be the new co-host of Sunrise – and she’s already off to a cracking start

The ratings gods have smiled upon Natalie Barr as the Seven Network takes stock after the sudden resignation of Sam Armytage, which saw her leave the popular breakfast show on Thursday.

The day after the fawning farewell, Nat Barr co-hosted Sunrise with David Koch, who came in on his regularly scheduled day off (Kochie only works 4 days per week under the agreement of his contract).

The Friday edition of Sunrise had 260,000 5 cap city viewers compared to 187,000 for ABC News Breakfast and 182,000 for fierce rival TODAY.

A hosting line-up always has the potential for rival programs to strike and take audience share, but it looks as though the comfortability of Barr will not alienate fans of the show.

While there has been chatter Seven’s breakfast show could possibly become a 3-hander like Fox and Friends in the US, TV Blackbox understands that is not the case.

With Barr taking up the hosting role, all eyes will be on her replacement as newsreader. The smart money is on Edwina Bartholomew, although we haven’t confirmed that one.

*Rob McKnight is occasionally paid by Channel 9 for appearances on the TODAY show

  1. Stop being so damn arrogant just cause you want to be first with all your ‘exclusives’. No one and I mean no one knows anything for sure until it’s officially announced by the people at Seven so just shut up. They may surprise you and do a three host format. Until then, it’s pure speculation. I’m only commenting in the hope that you’ll learn to tone down this horrible attitude of yours that doesn’t look good for you or your site just cause you want all the traffic and attention here. I’m tired of seeing it and think it’s time someone said something
