More tennis, more Amazing Race, more Holey Moley. If only the numbers reflected a modicum of audience interest (510 is not a timeslot winning total, and yet here we are)…
Nine’s investment in tennis continues to pay off, as Australian Open 2021 Night 2 (464,000) delivers a good audience across the night. Ash Barty’s win against Danka Kovnic drew an average of 646,000 viewers, while the Stefanos Tsitsipas/Gilles Simon match drew an average of 432,000 viewers. Combined with their News product it was enough to see Nine land first in both primary (20.4%) & network (28.3%) shares.
Oof. Seven struggled to keep up, right from 7pm. Home and Away (553,000) was their highest rating program – and that’s saying something – given their massive and expensive primetime reality show Holey Moley Australia (469,000) just crashed to its lowest ratings yet… and it’s only episode 5. New eps of The Good Doctor (284,000) and The Resident (133,000) will tick up in the Con7/Con28 figures as only die hard fans will have stayed up to view them. Seven come in a respectable second thanks primarily to their News product in both primary (18.2%) & network (27%) shares.
10’s offerings fared better than almost all of Seven’s. The Project (261,000 6:30pm; 442,000 7pm) down on Monday’s numbers, and while The Amazing Race Australia (510,000) was down too it was still in second place in the timeslot. NCIS (303,000) and NCIS: Los Angeles (198,000) again only for the dedicated fans. 10 third across both primary (12.2%) & network (20.3%) shares.
The ABC offered up a reasonable Tuesday night, starting with the pairing of 7:30Â (467,000) and Foreign Correspondent (368,000), though they weren’t really in the race. Australia Remastered: Wild Wars (270,000), Our Dementia Choir (131,000), and a repeat of QI (90,000) round out the night though it continues to be a programmatic problem child for Aunty. ABC fourth in both primary (10.2%) & network (15.2%) shares.

This isn’t accurate both Amazing Race and Holey Moley beat the Tennis.
Hi David – As I mentioned in the article the tennis is averaged across 4 or so hours. The individual matches are different to that average – e.g. the Ash Barty game beat both TARAU and HM.
Thanks Steve, appreciate you responding although the Ash Barty game was something like 40 minutes long, while the other programs were much longer? If you carve out specific time periods of any show the ratings can be better or worse – It all seems like nine spin to me.
