The Grand Final was the most watched match this season, well ahead of the next best game of the season achieved by Game 12 Thunders v Scorchers with 376K.

The Foxtel Group audience for the match was up 23% on last season’s final between the Sixers and Stars that had an audience of 360K.

Despite ongoing discussion regarding declining interest in the BBL, this weekend’s match was the second-most watched BBL Final on STV services of all time, behind the 2011/12 Final between the Scorchers and Sixers that had an average audience of 450K.

It was also the third most watched BBL game of all time on Subscription services (#1 is 2011/12 Game 2 Stars v Thunder with 478K).

The 2021 BBL Grand Final also attracted a significant Saturday night audience on free-to-air television with a national audience of 961k tuning in for the first session on Seven (611k metro).

The second session was watched by an average national audience of 980k (640k metro).

Seven will not be celebrating the figures however with the network keen to push on with its campaign to secure a reduced rights agreement from Cricket Australia. The two parties will meet in Federal Court later this month.
