Another old favourite makes a comeback as the network continues its strategy of commissioning known formats
Dancing With The Stars is back!
TV Blackbox can reveal Channel 7 has bought the rights after channel 10 decided not to renew the program for 2021.
With the option up for grabs Seven has swooped in and is set to launch a retooled version of the show.
The network has rebuilt its ratings in the second half of 2020 by using known brands and big formats to drive audiences. Big Brother and Farmer Wants A Wife along with a local version of the international series SAS Australia has helped keep Seven competitive after a horrendous start to the year with shows like My Kitchen Rules, House Rules and Pooch Perfect.
It’s understood the network will bring back the elements viewers loved about Dancing With The Stars when it first launched in 2004.
There are strong rumours Sonia Kruger will be brought back to reprise her role, although that is not confirmed.
The big question is whether Seven will bring back any of the old judges, or even hosts.
Channel 10 picked up the rights to the series after Channel 7 let them go in 2016. The 10 version ran in 2019 and 2020 but failed to attract any significant audiences.
Seven are said to be working on a format that long-term viewers will love.
The network is set to make an official announcement soon and has not yet responded to questions from TV Blackbox
