“The world is now a blank page and it is there that you must make your stand.”

Amazon Studios has acquired the Australian and New Zeraland rights to Stephen Kings’ The Stand, from CBS.  The epic series stars a stellar ensemble cast including Whoopi Goldberg and Alexander Skarsgard, alongside Australian actress Odessa Young, and premieres exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on 15 January 2021.

Five months after a bioengineered super flu strain – developed by the US military and named “Captain Trips” – sees the death of more than 99 percent of the world’s population, hundreds of survivors come together to try and start their lives over.

The nine-episode limited event series is Stephen King’s apocalyptic dark fantasy vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg) and a handful of survivors.

Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the Dark Man. The Stand will close with a new coda written by the famed author himself.

In this post-apocalyptic world, there is the good and a deep wall darkness. People must choose and take a stand.

In addition to Goldberg and Skarsgård, the series features a stellar ensemble cast including James Marsden as Stu Redman, Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith, Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, Amber Heard as Nadine Cross, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, Henry Zaga as Nick Andros, Brad William Henke as Tom Cullen, Irene Bedard as Ray Bretner, Nat Wolff as Lloyd Henreid, Eion Bailey as Weizak, Heather Graham as Rita Blakemoor, Katherine McNamara as Julie Lawry, Fiona Dourif as Ratwoman, Natalie Martinez as Dayna Jurgens, Hamish Linklater as Dr. Jim Ellis, Daniel Sunjata as Cobb and Greg Kinnear as Glen Bateman.

Benjamin Cavell serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Taylor Elmore, Will Weiske, Jimmy Miller, Roy Lee and Richard P. Rubinstein. Josh Boone serves as director and an executive producer for the series premiere and final episode. Jake Braver, Jill Killington, Owen King, Knate Lee and Stephen Welke serve as producers. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

  1. The Stand 2020 is NOT streaming in Canada on Prime at all. I find it disappointing that the information given here and in other media is so wrong and there’s no info from Amazon prime. Can you find out what’s going on with this series.

    • Hi Petra, TV Blackbox is an Australian media website and all of the launch date and programming information we publish is specific for the Australian market. I can tell you The Stand is exclusive to CBS All Access in the US and Canada. Cheers
