One of Perth’s most trusted and experienced media stalwarts, Monika Kos, is joining 9News to front a new live and local one-hour bulletin at 5pm, commencing next Monday, December 7.

A warmly familiar face with Perth viewers for more than three decades, having previously hosted Today Tonight and Ten News, Kos brings a wealth of experience and credibility to Nine’s reinvigorated weeknight news offering.

“It’s a privilege to join the team at Nine and I’m humbled to have this opportunity to once again bring viewers the news that matters to them, in what has been an extraordinary year for all of us,”

Kos said.

“I’m excited to call Nine my new home, at the top of the terrace in the city, and I hope you’ll join us from Monday at 5pm.”

9News at 5.00 will focus on the important stories of the day, developing news with insight as well as lifestyle, entertainment, sport and weather. Kos will then hand over to Michael Thomson with the full story on the network’s flagship 6pm bulletin, featuring in-depth analysis, breaking local, national and international news, together with the latest in sport and weather.

Thomson said:

“I’ve known Monika for many years and I’m thrilled she is joining us – she will be a great asset to Nine. She knows Perth and Perth knows her. I’m looking forward to working with her.”

Nine Perth Director of News, Michael Best, said the new bulletin is another example of Nine’s commitment to bringing viewers the most comprehensive news coverage from a top team of journalists.

“We will now be the only commercial network in Perth to have two hours of live, local, rolling news coverage each weeknight, first at 5pm with Monika and then at 6pm with Thommo,”

Best said.

“It means the people of Perth will be better informed about the latest news as it happens, from the moment they get home.”We will also continue to broadcast 9News Late from our Perth studios, which makes us the only commercial station locally to deploy its crew to broadcast a late-night bulletin across the country.”

A Nine spokesperson has confirmed that Hot Seat will move to 4pm in the Perth, in line with the Adelaide market
