The Casting Guild of Australia celebrated its 6th annual CGA Awards this evening at a virtual ceremony via Facebook hosted by Bert and Amanda LaBonté.
Leading the 2020 CGA Awards was Anousha Zarkesh and Nathan Lloyd who each scooped two Awards at tonight’s Ceremony, with Zarkesh taking home the win for ‘Best Casting in a TV Comedy’ – Black Comedy S4 and ‘Best Casting in a TV Miniseries & Telemovie’- Operation Buffalo and Lloydfor ‘Best Casting in a TV Drama’ – Wentworth S8 and ‘Achievement in Casting’ – The InBESTigators S2.
In film, Kirsty McGregor and Stevie Ray took out ‘Best Casting in A Feature Film’ for their work on Babyteeth, with‘Best Casting in a Short Film’going toDaniella Friedmanfor the AACTA Awardnominated, The Mirror.
Janine Snape received the top prize for a consecutive year for‘Best Casting in a Theatre Production’for Benjamin Law’s debut play Torch The Place.
‘Best Casting in a TVC – Community’ went to Natalie Jane Harvie for ANZ – #lovespeech with Joseph Wijangco receiving ‘Best Casting in a TVC’for his work onJeep ‘I’m in’.
The CGA also officially crowned Australia’s top emerging talent of 2020, highlighting its annual list of CGA Rising Stars during the virtual Ceremony.
Highlighting up to ten extraordinary actors with the potential to break out on the world stage, this year’s CGA Rising Stars include Ayesha Madon (Fan Girls), Bridie McKim (The Heights), Daniel Monks (The Split), Lily Sullivan (The Other Guy S2), Luca Sardelis (The Hunting), Patrick Jhanur (Diary of an Uber Driver), Ratidzo Mambo (The Gloaming), Sophie Wilde (upcoming Stan Original Eden),Thomas Weatherall(Deadlock) andYazeed Daher(Safe Harbour).
The CGA Awards is the only casting awards ceremony in the southern hemisphere that celebrates and recognises casting across all mediums including film, television, advertising, theatre and online content. The annual Awards Ceremony seeks to acknowledge and support the critical role casting directors play in bringing together great casting opportunities both on a national and international stage.
