THE BLOCK strong but not strong enough, and SAS AUSTRALIA continues to slide.
While The Block (805,000) delivered consistent numbers to Nine the follow up of the James Bond film Quantum of Solace (319,000) really didn’t help that much. It was enough when coupled with A Current Affair (778,000) and their 6pm News bulletin to help them win the night overall. Nine finished first in both primary (19.6%) and network (26.5%) shares.
The ABC’s Monday night only gets stronger. An explosive look into the behaviours of pollies and their staffers on Four Corners (824,000) was the biggest thing on Monday. Add in the other usual suspects in 7:30 (713,000), Australian Story (572,000), Media Watch (715,000), and Q&A (488,000) and it tells a compelling story about quality current affairs television. The ABC landed firmly in second in primary (18.4%) and third in network (22.4%) shares.
SAS Australia (584,000) continues to slide for Seven, but not so poorly that anything should be made of it. It’s really just a case of diminishing returns. A double episode of The Rookie (264,000; 237,000) saw lacklustre viewer numbers, and Home and Away (547,000) continues to struggle to compete with ACA at 7pm. Seven slid in third in primary (16.5%) and second in network (23.3%) shares.
Part 2 of the finale of Junior MasterChef Australia (767,000 avg [652,000 finale; 881,000 winner announced]) was a tale of the show and the last break where they announce the winner. Both parts rated higher than the series has all season, though it was the rubber-neckers turning up for the winner section that helped it to win that 10 minutes. Honestly, split-coding shows is stupid. The show average saw it come second to The Block. Have You Been Paying Attention? (620,000) suffers from a 9pm start and an audience that has been turning off before it even started. Perhaps it will bump up next week? The Project (350,000 6:30pm; 568,000 7pm) up slightly at 7pm thanks to the Junior Masterchef finale following. 10 lands horrifically in fourth in both primary (15.5%) and network (21.8%) shares.
Have you heard about Bluey (374,000 am; 232,000 pm)? It continues to do massive business leading the multi-channels by hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Meanwhile, at breakfast, Sunrise (261,000) stands tall against The Today Show (210,000) and ABC Breakfast (222,000 [140,000 ABC; 82,000 ABC News]).
