The other networks simply were not in the hunt.

If you are an American political wonk then Nine delivered two shows off the back of another 7:30pm win for The Block (816,000). The Trump Show (355,000) and Who Is Donald Trump? (220,000) helped round out the nightly primary (20.7%) and network (29%) share wins for Nine. A Current Affair (682,000) again won the 7pm battle.

Over on Seven, SAS Australia (654,000) entertained though delivered a gentler audience – enough to come second at least. Airing a repeat of the X-Men movie Logan (223,000) starring Hugh Jackman didn’t help them raise their primary (18.5%) and network (27.6%) shares any. They were second for the night after Home and Away (535,000) did nothing to capitalise on the winning lead-in from 7 News.

10 are in all sorts of trouble as Junior MasterChef Australia (485,000) heads into its final week (and The Bachelorette Australia finishes this week). Multiple episodes of Jamie Oliver cooking something will not help them win anything. The Project (351,000 6:30pm; 553,000 7pm) remains in a distant fourth in the first half hour but lifted in the second as they focused on the US election, and their airing of Trump vs Biden: The Interviews (261,000) lifted from CBS left them languishing with meagre primary (12.1%) and network (18.5%) shares barely delivering third overall.

Naturally The Melbourne Cup Race (1,410,000) was the biggest thing yesterday–even in COVID conditions the lowest rating Cup race since OzTAM starting collecting ratings in 2001–however as it was in the afternoon and not primetime it doesn’t help 10’s shares (these look at 6pm – midnight only).

A new episode of Bluey (396,000 am; 205,000 pm rpt) will always underscore that quality Australian children’s programming rates, and rates big.

The ABC again had an up-and-down Tuesday night. ABC News (751,000) at 7pm started the night well, and a US election-eve special 7:30 (577,000) did bolster the numbers though it didn’t compete with the commercial reality offerings. Outback Ringer (357,000) followed by the first of 5 sports docos in November Brock: Over The Top (369,000), then Searching for Superhumans (154,000) did lift ABC’s later evening numbers slightly compared to the commercials so that the primary (11.5%) and network (17%) shares were again competitive.

Meanwhile at Breakfast, Sunrise (261,000) continues its stranglehold while The Today Show (209,000) and ABC Breakfast (205,000 [128,000 ABC; 77,000 ABC News]) battle it out for second place.

All ratings data listed is Five City Metro, overnights only.

  1. The Project 553,000 v Home and Away 535,000….It looks like The Project in the 7pm to 7:30pm timeslot came in 3rd not a distant 4th as per your article. You may want to correct that.
