NBA finals, MLB playoffs, UFC and NFL headline a bumper weekend on ESPN

Australian and New Zealand sporting fans are in for a treat this weekend, with an incredible lineup of live action, exclusive to ESPN.

Whilst some states may have enjoyed a long weekend last week, ESPN Australia New Zealand is extending the privilege, giving fans four days, packed with live sport.

ESPN’s massive programming lineup is headlined by the NBA Finals series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat, four live NFL games, Major League Baseball playoffs and UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs Sandhagen.

Friday morning is the entrée to the weekend ahead, as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to continue their promising start to the season against the surprise packet Chicago Bears at 11.15am AEDT on ESPN.

Major League Baseball Playoffs continues across the weekend on ESPN2 as ESPN highlights the playoff division series between the Los Angeles Dodgers-San Diego Padres, New York Yankees-Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves-Miami Marlins and Houston Astros-Oakland Athletics.

Saturday sees Game 5 of the NBA Finals on ESPN at 12pm AEDT.

The Los Angeles Lakers will look to close out the NBA Finals with victory over the Miami Heat, with LeBron and his Lakers enjoying a 3-1 lead heading into the showdown.

Miami have played spoiler already in the series and will hope to keep their championship hopes alive.

ESPN2 will have three Major League Baseball playoff games, back to back, from 6.30am AEDT.

Sunday sees a return to Fight Island, in the second of three straight UFC Fight Night events that will be live and exclusive to ESPN Australia New Zealand.

Sunday’s action begins at 8am AEDT with the UFC Fight Night Prelims, before the main card begins at 11am AEDT, as bantamweights Marlon Moraes and Corey Sandhagen go head to head in the main event.

Also on the stacked card is a showdown between Edson Barboza and Makwan Amirkhani and a heavyweight slugfest that sees Ben Rothwell and Marcin Tybura coming out swinging. 

The four-day sporting fest concludes on Monday with Game Six of the NBA Finals on ESPN at 10.30am AEDT (if needed).

Meanwhile, ESPN2 will host a triple header of NFL action from 4am AEDT.

The Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs kick start the NFL madness, before the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys blockbuster follows at 7.25am AEDT.

Monday’s NFL games conclude at 11.15am AEDT with the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings.
