The extraordinary history of cruising and its darker side laid bare in a 7NEWS documentary event

Is this the end of cruising as we know it?

This Sunday, the extraordinary history of cruising and its darker side laid bare in this 7NEWS documentary event

The cruising industry is being battered by the worst crisis in its history as more than 300 ghost ships lie idle around the globe. In the face of the pandemic will a holiday on the high seas ever be the same again?

Australians are the most avid cruise-goers in the world. On average almost 1.5 million Aussie holiday makers take a cruise every year. That was until March this year. Now, the cruising industry is desperate to get back on the water – and there’s no shortage of demand from cruise-starved passengers.

Featuring interviews with insiders, whistleblowers, experts and ordinary travellers, this documentary-length investigation reveals the heartbreaking stories of passengers who contracted COVID-19 on board cruises and explores what the industry will look like in the future.

When can cruising resume and how safe will it be? Critics warn that if the cruise lines get it wrong the whole industry could go under. The stakes are incredibly high.

7NEWS Presents – Cruising the Biggest Storm – Premieres this Sunday at 7pm on 7 and 7plus

  1. This show was a load of old crock, dredged up to get a program to air. It had no new story or any worthwhile information. It directly blamed the Cruise Industry for all the drug & rape problems experienced at sea yet never mentioned that you could suffer the same problems during a night out at a local nightclub.
Health Departments, though recently found responsible for poor Covid19 management (& previous SARS outbreaks that this program attributes to the Cruise Industry) were blissfully overlooked. No comparisons were made to the mismanaged hotel outbreaks in Melbourne that has killed almost 800 Victorians.
There was not one piece of investigative journalism evident in this program nor any input from the Cruise Industry. Pathetic expose & definitely not worth the ratings it received, which we’re purely because it deceived the viewing public who watched because they felt they’d learn something.
