HBO’s hit superhero series Watchmen has won more Emmy Awards than any other show this year, including Outstanding Limited Series, the first time a comic-book adaptation has won a top prize.
Today’s ‘virtual’ Primetime Emmys also saw Watchmen win awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, Regina King; Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II; and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series or Movie.
This was in addition to the seven awards the series won at the Creative Arts Emmys over the weekend, bringing Watchmen’s tally to a massive 11 wins.
Watchmen helped push HBO to 30 wins in total, including 19 wins during the Creative Arts Emmys – more than any other network.
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and broadcast live on FOX ARENA direct from Los Angeles, this year’s Awards ceremony was like no other with more than 100 nominees watching – and broadcasting themselves – from locations around the world.
HBO’s Succession was another big winner, taking home the top award for Outstanding Drama Series. Jeremy Strong won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Succession also won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Combined with the three awards it won at the Creative Arts Emmys, Succession won a total of seven awards.
Other HBO wins include surprise, first-time nominee, Zendaya who beat out an impressive field of actresses to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work in the controversial teen drama, Euphoria.
Mark Ruffalo also faced stiff competition to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his stellar performance in I Know This Much Is True.
And Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won Outstanding Variety Talk Series for third year in a row.
All of these Emmy Award-winning titles and more are available to watch On Demand for Foxtel subscribers via internet connected IQ boxes, on smartphones and tablets using the Foxtel GO app and via Foxtel Now.
Following Foxtel’s exclusive live coverage of the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards today, there will be an encore broadcast from 7.30pm AEST tonight, Monday September 21, on FOX ARENA, or watch On Demand.
