Boom colt Russian Camelot makes his eagerly awaited return to racing in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, while race fans will also enjoy all the action of Run To The Rose Day at Rosehill Gardens LIVE and FREE on Seven.
Widely tipped to be one of this Spring Carnival’s biggest stars, the Danny O’Brien-trained colt will start favourite in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), his first run since his spectacular win in May’s South Australian Derby (2500m).
Russian Camelot won’t have things all his own way, however, against a deep field that’s headed by Fierce Impact, Perfect Jewel, Dalasan, Kings Will Dream and Master of Wine, while his stablemate and star stayer Vow and Declare also can’t be discounted.
At Rosehill Gardens, a select group of three-year-olds will do battle in the Run To The Rose (1200m), when Golden Slipper winner Farnan will push his claims for a spot in the world’s richest race on turf, The Everest.
Farnan is expected to start favourite in the Group 2 feature, but will face stiff opposition from gun Queensland gelding Rothfire – already a confirmed starter in The Everest (October 17) – along with North Pacific and Peltzer.
Australia’s pre-eminent broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s best commentary team, which on Saturday features Hamish McLachlan, Katelyn Mallyon and prominent Victorian trainer Henry Dwyer. Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs will also be trackside at Flemington and Rosehill Gardens respectively, bringing fans all the news and interviews.
There’s plenty more tantalising Group 2 action on Saturday, including the Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m), Danehill Stakes (1200m) and Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) on Girls’ Day Out at Flemington, along with the Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) and Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens.
