Meet the world’s oldest surviving mammals.
Echidnas and platypuses have changed little since the time of the dinosaurs.
Found only in Australia and New Guinea, upon discovery these two animals sent shockwaves through the scientific community, and indeed the entire world.
Platypus & Echidna, hosted and narrated by Aaron Pedersen, tells how they are the only mammals in the world to share some key traits with reptiles – they have variable body temperature, only one orifice for mating and defecation and instead of giving birth to live young they lay eggs.
Though they might seem primitive, these strange animals are highly tuned to their environment. They are incredible survivors who have lived through the ice ages, atmospheric changes and the movement of continents.
