I have only lived in Queensland for 18 months and I am already sick and tired of the Sydney elite telling us what to do, especially when it comes to border control

If there’s one thing I’ve learned during this pandemic, it’s that everyone is an expert. It seems everyone outside of Queensland thinks they know better than the premier of the state – Annastacia Palaszczuk.

And I’m sick of it.

When it comes to Queensland… can the rest of Australia just piss off! We want the border locked down… we don’t want the virus crossing over. When I see the way Victorians are being forced to live, I don’t want that up here. So my message to Gladys Berejiklian, and all the media commentators in Sydney is simple: just piss off and stop telling us what to do.

Your bullying of our state is only more likely to make me vote for Annasatcia Palaszczuk in the upcoming election.

I’ve seen various articles where presenters on Sunrise and the Today show have had a go at the border closures, but let me tell you — WE ARE HAPPY WITH THEM!

Yes, it’s frustrating that I can’t go and see my sisters new baby.

Yes, it’s frustrating I can’t go down to Sydney for business.

But you know what – it’s better than stage 4 restrictions like Melbourne is going through.

Up here in Queensland we are living a relatively normal life. We social distance and take precautions, but things are normal. We are happy to wait this thing out until it is safe to open the borders.

It’s not a perfect system and I know there have been issues along the way, but if I hear one more expert from Sydney’s media telling us what we should be doing I will lose it.

There’s a real sense of arrogance coming through each day when I watch breakfast TV where Sydney presenters keep telling us what is best for our state. You don’t live here and you don’t get a say, so stay out of it.

We’ll find out whether the electorate is happy with the situation soon enough when we go to the polls.

I for one support my premier and the decisions she is making to keep us safe.

Yes, we are one country and we are all in it together, but worry about your own backyard before telling us what to do up here.

  1. Yeah… I can’t even with this, if this is the biggest problem you’ve got in Queensland…. It’s not a matter of the border closures it’s the smugness and Xenophobic commentary from the Queensland premier and many within the state. Fuck off. Sincerely, Melbourne.

    • Hey Ryan,
it’s because of the terrible situation Melbourne is in that Queenslander’s don’t want the border opened. But that’s not even the issue, it Sydney’s media elite continually telling us what to do

  2. There have been no cases in northern and far western NSW in the past month, with the closest to Queensland being two cases on the Central Coast and one in Parkes, yet because of the multiple cases in Sydney the rest of NSW gets tainted with the COVID-19 stigma by Queensland. That’s not fair. Neither is NSW doing the same to regional Victoria outside of Melbourne, with NSW tainting them because of the multiple cases in Melbourne.
