Life is a funny thing. One day you’re minding your own business and then suddenly you find out you’re being spoken about on the radio — and not in a good way!
Once upon a time I had coffee with Marty Sheargold. You know Marty, he’s (currently) one third of Kate, Tim & Marty on Nova. It turns out the coffee didn’t go so well. In fact, you could say Marty came away from that one coffee with a great disdain for me.
On no less than three occasions he has bemoaned the fact I am boring.
Well, guilty as charged I guess. But gee Marty, you didn’t have to tell everyone!
Anyway, I’ve joked about this ‘celebrity’ feud a few times on the TV Blackbox podcast and The Ben, Rob & Robbo Internet Show (please note I do not consider myself a celebrity and use the term ironically). I think word has reached Marty because just the other day he talked about me on the radio again.
People phoned me within minutes to let me know Marty was referring to me as his ‘mate’ on the show.
Imagine my surprise.
Had the tide turned? Had Marty finally forgiven my boring personality?
I quickly got hold of the audio only to discover that no, it would seem Marty has not forgiven me for wasting his time over a coffee.

In what was, admittedly, a very funny few minutes worth of radio, Marty spoke about some comments I had given and I think it’s safe to say Marty still doesn’t like me.
So Marty, let me publicly apologise for being a boring coffee date.
Since our encounter Peter Dutton has been teaching me how to be more engaging and I’ve been reading Kochie’s Best Jokes books.
Basically what I’m saying is I’m ready for round two – you won’t be disappointed (oh who are kidding, yes you will)
