Channel 10 has snatched the rights to one of the biggest sitcoms of the last decade.
In the age of COVID-19 where filling slots is getting tougher by the day for TV networks, Network 10 will be pleased with its acquisition of The Big Bang Theory.
TV Blackbox can reveal the rights to the internationally popular comedy will shift from Channel 9 to Channel 10 where it is set to air on 10 Peach from Monday September 14.
In 2015 Seven nabbed the rights to The Big Bang Theory from Channel 9, costing the network millions of dollars for a two-year run. Nine regained broadcast rights in 2017 after Seven’s rights lapsed.
10 will air the first 11 seasons, until rights expire with Nine on the final season.
With 10 now having acquired The Big Bang Theory, Friends and Seinfeld, the network has some of the most popular re-run sitcoms in the world.

The rights changing to 10 is also a nice alignment with parent company ViacomCBS – CBS is the broadcaster of the show in the US. Although 10 has the rights to most of the shows that air on CBS in America, not all shows are not distributed internationally by CBS – hence why there is a different Australian network airing a show that airs on CBS in America. Young Sheldon (Nine), S.W.A.T (Seven) and All Rise (Foxtel) are examples of this.
