What happens when you take an ordinary 2020 family back in time 120 years to immerse themselves in five decades of Australian history?

Over 5 episodes, join Annabel Crabb as she guides the Ferrone family back through history as they cook, eat, and live, from Australia’s Federation to the 1940s.

The brave Ferrones have returned to take on the time-travelling challenge. Peter, Carol, Julian, Sienna and Olivia, have already discovered the trials and joys of living through 60 years of Australian history from the 1950s right through to the present day and beyond in Back in Time For Dinner.

Now, this average family of five, who are all comfortably accustomed to the perks of a very modern world, are back and have to source, cook and eat their way ‘further back in time’ – through a plague, a pandemic, two World Wars and the Great Depression.

With the visually compelling transformation of the house, and extraordinary archival material, Further Back in Time for Dinner is rich with the pleasure of discovery as well as the gob-smacking disbelief at how we lived our lives as a fledgling nation.

The drama-filled first episode of this experiment in time tests every member of the Ferrone family. Starting in 1900, they arrive at their home for the start of a new decade to discover a very basic kitchen with a wood-burning stove, no electricity, no gas and no indoor conveniences.

The loo is outside and toilet paper is “not a thing yet.” There’s a cow, veggie patch and chickens to help feed the family. Peter is banned from the kitchen, Carol and Sienna are virtually confined to the house, Julian is forced to get physical and Olivia finds out how strict 1900s school is.

There are tears and tantrums as the family prepares a Federation banquet with one very confronting ingredient.

Production details: Further Back in Time for Dinner is a Warner Bros. International Production, produced in association with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
