One of sport’s most iconic events kicks off on Saturday when the Spring Racing Carnival explodes from the starting gates LIVE and FREE on Seven with Memsie Stakes Day at Caulfield and San Domenico Stakes Day at Rosehill Gardens.

Over the next three months, fans will enjoy the most celebrated meetings on the Australian thoroughbred racing calendar and a procession of Group 1 races. From the glorious tradition of the Caulfield Guineas, Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate to the unmistakable electricity that now surrounds the Golden Eagle, Everest and Epsom Handicap, Seven is the only place to catch all the premium spring action – in both Melbourne and Sydney – LIVE and FREE.

It all begins on Saturday at 12.00pm AEST on 7, 7TWO and 7plus, when Caulfield hosts the first Group 1 race of the Melbourne Spring Carnival, the $750,000 Magic Millions Memsie Stakes (1400m), and the TAB San Domenico Stakes (Group 3, 1100m) headlines a big day at Rosehill.

Seven has long been the undisputed leader in racing broadcasting and continues that rich tradition in 2020.

Australia’s pre-eminent broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will again lead racing’s best commentary team, which on Saturday features Hamish McLachlan, Katelyn Mallyon and prominent Victorian trainer Henry Dwyer. Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs will also be trackside at Caulfield and Rosehill respectively, bringing fans all the news and interviews.

McAvaney said this year’s Spring Carnival could see some all-time greats emerge:

“This year, the race that defines a champion will have its 100th running. But it will be a Cox Plate like we’ve never seen before. And the great Caulfield Cup will have a COVID twist – with no Japanese horses and fewer European raiders, giving the locals a big chance.

“In Sydney, the Everest provides the platform for the outrageously talented Nature Strip to race his way into the Hall of Fame. The Golden Eagle is no less than the Grand Final for four-year-olds. And what about the three-year-olds? I doubt we’ve ever seen so much depth at the start of spring, so many potential stallions.

“But we all have our favourite question at this time of year. And mine is about a colt who was bred to race in Europe but has already made a mark here. By the end of the spring, we will find out whether Russian Camelot is good – or great.”

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin added:

“The Spring Racing Carnival is one of the great events on the international sporting calendar. And there’s no doubt its standing has grown in recent years as the time-honoured tradition of the Caulfield Guineas, Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate has been complemented by the irresistible new buzz around the Golden Eagle and Everest. It will be a non-stop parade of Australia’s most prestigious races on Seven – and racing fans won’t want to be anywhere else.”

On Saturday, Savatiano, Arcadia Queen, Behemoth, Mystic Journey and Regal Power are among a host of contenders expected to fight out the Memsie Stakes, while there’s plenty more to look forward to at Caulfield including the Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m), The Heath 1100 Stakes (1100m) and Cockram Stakes (1200m).

At Rosehill, the San Domenico Stakes looks set to be a hotly contested affair between Anders, Peltzer, Mamaragan and Doubtland, while the day’s other highlights include the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality Handicap (1400m) and Premier’s Cup (1900m).
