More details have been revealed regarding yesterday’s big new content announcement from Stan.

The new deal will see Stan become the Australian home of original Peacock and Sky Studios content, as well as new DreamWorks Animation shows and iconic TV series and films from NBCUniversal’s catalogue.

TV Blackbox understands the Nine owned streaming service Stan has committed $100 million to secure the content deal for two years.

The deal includes an option which allows NBCUniversal to extend the arrangement for a third year. However, this extension may not occur, NBCUniversal has previously indicated it has plans in place to expand its own streaming service Peacock globally. The new streaming service launched last month in the US.

Access to Peacock original content includes new titles such as Brave New World, Dr. Death, Angelyne, Rutherford Falls, Saved by the Bell, and Battlestar Galactica

TV Blackbox understands Stan had to compete against several streaming rivals including Amazon Prime Video to secure the Peacock deal.

As part of the new deal, Stan also secured access to new productions from Sky Studios in the UK. This deal will provide the local streaming service access to more original series including Gangs of London, I Hate Suzie and Domina.

This is the first time Sky Studios has signed a significant output deal in Australia. Stan competed against players including Amazon Prime Video and a combined bid from SBS and FetchTV to secure the Sky Studios content.

The new deal also includes access to a considerable library of NBC Universal content including popular sitcoms The Office, Will & Grace, Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock. The library deal is a non-exclusive arrangement and comes after both Foxtel and Nine signed content deals with NBCUniversal late last year.

The new content deal comes at an important time for Stan. Over the past twelve months, the service has lost access to Disney content, and failed in an attempt to secure content from Warner Bros.

An existing content supply arrangement between Showtime and Stan will also expire in coming month after parent company ViacomCBS recently confirmed plans to rebrand and relaunch its own SVOD offering in Australia.

Currently operating as 10 All Access, the new streaming service is expected to launch in Australia next year under the rumoured title of Paramount+. It will feature content from Showtime, Paramount Pictures, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, and ViacomCBS International Studios.
