The National Indigenous Music Awards (the NIMAs), produced in partnership with National Indigenous Television (NITV), will be broadcast live on the channel at 7pm (AEST) this Saturday 8 August in a unique, virtual event.
Viewers will enjoy performances from Archie Roach, Thelma Plum and Midnight Oil, as well as the comedic talents of hosts Elaine Crombie (Top Of The Lake, Top End Wedding, Black Comedy) and Steven Oliver (Faboriginal, A Chance Affair, Black Comedy), bringing Indigenous talent to audiences around Australia.
Overseen by Creative Director Ben Graetz, the NIMAs will air live from Larrakia Country (Darwin), with artists joining from around the country to perform, accept awards and join a national celebration of Indigenous music.
The multi-platform event will be airedacross NITV, Double J, National Indigenous Radio Service, as well as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The virtual format will welcome audience interaction through social media during the live show.
For the first time, the NIMAs will welcome a 100% First Nations camera crew for the production, as well as a majority First Nations production crew, as the event moves towards a path of First Nations self-determination.
