The first episode begins following the death of King George V in 1952, when son Prince Edward was challenged with a difficult decision: follow in his father’s footsteps and take the throne, or marry American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. His affair was a secret from the public, but a choice had to be made. You can learn all about the Windsor family through archival records, interviews and facts from experts on the Windsor family.
The rest of the season will follow the Windsors through the decades as George VI took the throne after World War 2, Elizabeth II taking the throne as Queen and the pressures Prince Charles faced under pressure to marry and produce an heir. They’ll also be focusing on the marriage between the Prince and Princess of Wales, and will finally be taking a look at modern times, focusing on the future of the crown.
