7AFL | Grand final rematch headlines blockbuster bonanza on Seven

Season 2020 continues to hot up on Seven, with AFL fans poised to enjoy a raft of blockbuster games LIVE and FREE across Rounds 7 and 8, including an unprecedented run of marquee matches in Western Australia.

As announced by the AFL on Monday, Round 8 gets off to an explosive start with last year’s Grand Final rematch on Friday, July 24, when the GWS Giants will be out for revenge as they welcome defending premier Richmond to Giants Stadium.

The following day early ladder-leader Port Adelaide meets St Kilda at Adelaide Oval in a not-to-be-missed Saturday night encounter between two teams desperate to return to the finals in 2020.

Seven’s Sunday Football then plays host to a titanic clash between 2018 Grand Final foes West Coast and Collingwood at Optus Stadium, in a fortnight when Perth becomes the centre of the AFL universe like never before.

It all begins this Thursday night when the Magpies kick off Round 7 against fellow Victorian heavyweight Geelong in a historic clash at Optus Stadium, where in a world-first during the coronavirus pandemic 30,000 fans will fill the stands at Perth’s premier sporting venue.

Then, on the Sunday afternoon, WA viewers will witness one of the game’s greatest rivalries LIVE and FREE, when cross-town foes West Coast and Fremantle – freshly home from the Gold Coast hub – do battle in The Derby.

There’s plenty more LIVE and FREE action to look forward to in Round 7, with Essendon and the Western Bulldogs renewing hostilities at Metricon Stadium this Friday night, before Richmond and North Melbourne clash on Saturday night at the same venue, and Hawthorn and Melbourne do battle on Sunday afternoon at Giants Stadium.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin commented:

“This season is evolving into an unpredictable epic adventure. The premiership race has never been more open and the fixture continues to deliver compelling match after compelling match. It will be a weekend of national significance when Optus Stadium hosts two traditional Victorian powerhouses in prime-time this Thursday night, followed by The Derby three days later. And the blockbusters just keep coming in Round 8 including rematches of the past two Grand Finals. We can’t wait to bring footy fans all the action.”

As always, viewers in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia will be able to watch every game involving their local AFL teams on Seven.

And post-match on Friday nights, Adam Cooney and Cam Luke will settle in on the Armchair Experts sofa, offering viewers their unique take on the big match.

AFL fans can also keep across all the action on the @7AFL social pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
