Nine owned streaming service Stan has confirmed it will bring four brand new theatrical releases to subscribers this July.
The announcement comes following last week’s news that Stan Original Film Relic will premiere on July 10.
The critically acclaimed Military Wives from the director of The Full Monty Peter Cattaneo, Valley Girl starring Jessica Rothe, Josh Whitehouse, Judy Greer, Alicia Silverstone and Logan Paul, plus Hearts and Bones and The Trip To Greece will all stream exclusively on Stan next month.
These four new release films will add to a still to be announced slate of new theatrical releases and original productions from Stan, with further major announcements still to come in the weeks ahead.
MILITARY WIVES – JULY 3
Inspired by real events and from the director of The Full Monty Peter Cattaneo, comes a heartfelt story of friendship, love, and support on the home front. When Kate (Kristin Scott Thomas, Darkest Hour) persuades a disparate group of women on the base to form the Military Wives Choir, Lisa (Sharon Horgan, Catastrophe) is initially sceptical and embarrassed by such an amateur bunch. However, she is quickly transformed by the choir’s friendship, humour and courage. Finding their voice together, Kate, Lisa and the choir put aside their own personal differences and sing their hearts out, bringing joy, hope and strength to the world.
VALLEY GIRL – JULY 17
Set to a rock ’n roll ‘80s soundtrack produced by the legendary Harvey Mason, Jr. with dance numbers by choreographer Mandy Moore (La La Land), Valley Girl is a musical adaptation of the classic 1983 hit film that changed American teenage life forever. Julie (Jessica Rothe, La La Land) is the ultimate ‘80s Valley Girl. That is, until she falls hard for Randy (Josh Whitehouse, Poldark), a Sunset Strip punk rocker, who challenges everything Julie stands for. Despite push-back from friends and family, Julie must break out of the safety of her world to follow her heart and discover what it really means to be a Valley Girl. HEARTS AND BONES – JULY 26
Four-time AACTA Award-winner Hugo Weaving (The Matrix Trilogy) stars as a war photographer who has just returned home to prepare for his latest exhibition when a South Sudanese refugee appears at his door with a request – that he not exhibit any photographs of the massacre in his village, taken 15 years earlier. What emerges is an unlikely friendship between the two men. While sifting through the photographer’s archive, they make a startling discovery – the refugee’s daughter, thought dead, may still be alive. As more revelations arise, both men begin to question their past and in their search, they discover salvation.
THE TRIP TO GREECE – JULY 31
In their fourth and final gastronomic expedition, Steve Coogan (Philomena) and Rob Brydon (Gavin & Stacey) set out from the ruins of Troy in modern-day Turkey as they head to Greece to retrace the steps of legendary king Odysseus, the hero of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. They visit Lesvos, where Sappho wrote her love poetry; Macedonia, where Aristotle was born and tutored Alexander the Great; Athens, home of Plato and Socrates; the Peloponnese, the land of Mycenae, Argos, Sparta and the entrance to the underworld, before finally arriving at Ithaca, home to Odysseus. Steve and Rob’s semi-fictional alter-egos seek out culture, history, breathtaking vistas and, of course, some of the finest food in Europe.
