Foxtel has confirmed adult contemporary Smooth music content will depart the pay-tv platform on June 30.
The easy-listening channel Smooth was produced in partnership with radio group Nova Entertainment. It originally launched as a 24hr channel in 2013, and featured hosts Cameron Daddo and Marcia Hines.
In 2017 the channel was merged with Foxtel Arts, a move with lead the Smooth music programming to be reduced to 18hrs per day.
Foxtel Arts will now return to operating as a 24hr channel from July 1
The departure of Smooth comes after Foxtel recently signed a deal with CBSViacom to outsource the production of all music programming on the platform. A move that will also see the closure of heritage music brand Channel V, along with Max and CMC.
The music channels will be replaced with a suite of new channels from CBSViacom featuring MTV branding,
The ongoing changes at Foxtel will also see entertainment channel Arena rebranded as Fox Arena from July. The rebrand will bring Fox Arena in line with other entertainment channels including Fox One, Fox Funny and Fox Showcase.
