It’s the tv show that has made celebrities out of its stars, but now Foxtel is planning to turn the popular reality TV show on its head with a special celebrity edition.

TV Blackbox can exclusively reveal plans are in place for Celebrity Gogglebox to hit our screens in September. Initial plans by Foxtel for the spin-off series were thrown into chaos due to the Coronavirus but producers are forging ahead with plans in place to make the show work.

In the regular series of Gogglebox, crew are minimising contact with the families by setting up the cameras and mini control room while they are in another room. Everything is cleaned before the families take their positions and the crew remain in another room during the record. There is next-to-no contact between crew and talent.

A celebrity spin-off version is nothing new. Channel 4 in the UK ran a 6 part series in 2019 which included Kelly Osbourne, Little Mix and others.

While names are being closely guarded at the moment, TV Blackbox has heard whispers breakfast radio personality Jackie O will be one of the celebrities. Considering her relationship with Channel 10 (which airs The Masked Singer on which Jackie O is a judge), appearing on the Foxtel-produced program would not cause any contractual issues.

Foxtel declined to comment when approached by TV Blackbox.

We’ll have more information about this on the next episode of the TV Blackbox podcast which will hit your feeds on Tuesday morning and The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show video stream, Monday at 1pm on Ticker TV.
