Viewers can leave a voice message at ‘1800 THE FEED’ to share their stories and experiences at this unprecedented time in history
SBS’s The Feed wants to hear how Australians are coping and adapting to life in the time of COVID-19.
The weekly current affairs program has launched a hotline – 1800 THE FEED (1800 843 3333) – to accept voice memos from people across Australia and the world.
Selected voice memos will be turned into short clips to air on The Feed and will also feature across SBS’s digital platforms.
Executive Producer, Mike Clay, said:
“Our reporters can’t travel to find stories like they used to. But helping Australians connect to each other through shared human experience is more important than ever. This project will run for as long as it’s needed, growing to hundreds of tiny portraits of life in the time of COVID-19. My hope is that this may even have value as a historical or educational resource in the future.”
Clips will be like a small diary – a missive from a person telling The Feed who they are, where they are and what gives them hope in the time of COVID-19. They’re heartfelt, intimate and focus on coping, change, resilience and perseverance – like Leah’s story.
Leah was a university student during the 2003 SARS outbreak. Now a mother-of-three living in Melbourne, she told The Feed why social distancing is more important than ever. In an effort to keep isolation engaging for her three kids, Leah has put on online Harry Potter themed talent shows, encouraged them to practise their Mandarin, and started a vegetable patch.
